Officer’s Widow Vested with New Home

Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva’s compassion and considerateness towards bereaved families of officers and other rankers, came to light once again on Thursday (15) when one more new house, erected for another expired officer’s family was vested with the family at Hunupitiya, Wattala.

The widow of late Major A.H.M Marusu of the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) received the keys to the new house, built jointly by soldiers of the 6 (V) Corps of Engineer Service (CES) and SLSR using their professional expertise and precious labour during a ceremony.

Eng. Karunasena Hettiarachchi, Secretary Defence who attended as the Chief Guest for the occasion at the invitation of Major General Boniface Perera, Colonel of the Regiment, SLSR delivered the keys of the new house to Mrs Vellupille Mano Dayalini, the wife of late Major A.H.M Marusu who passed away suddenly, following a brief illness.

SLSR on the recommendations of its Colonel of the Regiment bought the land plot for the family and the cost for raw materials was borne by the Army as a gesture of reconciliation and understanding. This is another new house, gifted to Army personnel under the ongoing ‘House Construction’ project of the Commander of the Army. The house cost Rs 7.2 million.

The house-warming ceremony got underway amid Hindu and Buddhist religious rites before distinguished visitors extended their best wishes to the family.

Mrs Anoma Fonseka, Chairperson, Ranviru Seva Authority, Major General Boniface Perera, representing the Commander of the Army, members of the recipient’s family and next of kin of the family and a large gathering attended the house warming ceremony.
