Newly Deployed 53 Division Troops Move into Their New Headquarters


The new 53 Division Headquarters complex, established in Inamaluwa, Dambulla was ceremonially opened this morning (15) by the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva at the invitation of Major General Maithri Dias, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 53 Division.

The two-storied new complex consists of Administrative Section, Officer Accommodation, and Logistic Branches also has a separate mess for Warrant Officers and Sergeants.

The 53 Division was earlier deployed in Puttalam area and the shift of the place took place recently due to logistic requirements since the new location is nearby main supply routes.

The day’s chief guest for the opening Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva was welcomed on arrival by Major General Maithri Dias, GOC, 53 Division before he was requested to inaugurate the new complex.

A Guard Turnout plus a Guard of Honour greeted the visiting commander before he unveiled a plaque and cut a ribbon symbolizing the inauguration of the new building complex.

On entering the building, the commander lit the traditional oil lamp together with GOC and other senior officers.

After that the commander went round the premises and saw for himself how the facilities have been organized for officers and other ranks.

A few minutes later, the commander was invited to leave memories in the premises by planting a tree sapling as has been the practice in the army ceremonies of this nature.

The Chief Guest of the day, before sitting with everybody for lunch shared a few thoughts with all ranks in the new premises.

Before his departure, Major General Maithri Dias presented a memento to the Chief Guest of the day.
