Major General Ubaya Medawela took up duties as new Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Armoured Corps (SLAC) amid military formalities at the SLAC Regimental Centre, Rock House, Colombo 15 on Friday (11).
The newly-appointed Colonel Commandant was warmly welcomed by Lieutenant Colonel R. R. M. P. N. B. Bambaradeniya, Commanding Officer, 1st Reconnaissance Regiment, SLAC on arrival before he was greeted to a Guard Turnout presented by SLAC troops.
Afterwards, Major General Medawela officially assumed the office of the SLAC Colonel Commandant.
Brigadier D.T Gamage, Centre Commandant SLAC and Brigadier A.L.P.S Thilakarathna, Commander Armoured Brigade invited him to review the parade afterwards.
He inspected the parade and took the salute.
Planting of a tree sapling in the premises and an all rank tea party took place at the Rock House Camp premises, Modera as another feature of the day’s event.
He also paid homage to the Buddhist shrine inside the SLAC premises.
The new Colonel Commandant later on addressed the officers in the Headquarters and mapped out his vision for the Regiment.
