Newly Appointed Navy Chief Calls on Army Commander

The newly-appointed Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva this morning (9) was greeted to ceremonial honours when he arrived at the Army Headquarters to pay a courtesy call on the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake.

On his arrival at the Army Headquarters, a ceremonial Guard Turnout greeted him in accordance with military traditions after the Army Headquarters Battalion Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Pradeep Gamage received him at the entrance.

A few seconds later, Major General Shavendra Silva, Adjutant General of the Sri Lanka Army in accordance with customary military traditions after welcoming him invited the visiting Commander of the Navy to review the Guard of Honour parade and receive the salute of the Gajaba Regiment troops, presented on his behalf.

At the foyer to the Commander’s Secretariat, Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake warmly welcomed the visiting new Commander of the Navy and introduced his Principal Staff Officers in the Army, including, Deputy Chief of Staff, Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force Commandant and others to the visiting naval chief.

During cordial discussions that ensued, both of them recalled past memories, bonds of understanding and goodwill and admitted the importance of maintaining close relations in future too as guardians for national security concerns. Towards the end of the interaction, Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake awarded a memento to the Navy Commander and wished him good luck with his future endeavours.
