Major General M.K.D Perera, assumed duties as the new General Officer Commanding (GOC), 22 Division of the Security Force Headquarters - East (SFHQ-E) during a simple ceremony on Wednesday (7) at the 22 Divisional Headquarters, Trincomalee.
In accordance with military traditions, Major General M.K.D Perera reviewed the Guard Turnout on arrival after he was welcomed by senior officers of the 22 Division. Afterwards, a Guard of Honour, presented by the 22 Division troops saluted the new GOC.
A brief religious ceremony later on invoked blessings on the new office and the new GOC placed his signature for a formal document to signify the acceptance of the office. A tree sapling was also planted to mark the occasion.
Buddhist monks, Catholic, Hindu and Maulavis were present at the ceremony.
Commanders of under command Brigades, Commanding Officers, officers and other ranks attended the ceremony.
