New Volunteer Force Commandant Assumes Office

The newly-appointed Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF) Major General S.A.P.P. Samarasinghe assumed duties on Monday (12) at his office at SLAVF Headquarters, Kosgama.

Major General Samarasinghe at the entrance to the premises reviewed a Guard Turn Out plus a Guard of Honour, presented by SLAVF troops. Later on, the new Commandant attended religious observances after lighting the traditional oil lamp. Members of the Maha Sangha invoked blessings on the new appointment as the new Commandant symbolically placed his signature on a formal document.

In conformity with military traditions, Major General Samarasinghe afterwards addressed a cross section of the troops, present at the occasion.
