New Samurdhi Officers Learn More About ‘Leadership, Positive Attitudes & Moral Development’

The inaugural ceremony of the 19-day long workshop, organized on invitation by the Army for 116 newly-appointed Samurdhi Officers, including 95 female officers on ‘Leadership, Positive Attitudes & Moral Development’ commenced on Tuesday (21) at the Centre for Army Vocational Training (CAVT) at Saliyawewa, Kalaoya.

Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake in response to a request made by the Ministry of Social Empowerment, Welfare and Kandyan Heritage to the Ministry of Defence has accordingly instructed the Director General Training, Major General Vijitha Ravipriya at the Army Headquarters to facilitate the request. Accordingly, arrangements were put in place at the CAVT under the supervision of Brigadier Randula Hathnagoda, Commandant, CAVT.

This project coincides with the Commander’s conceptual notion that the Army should devote 1/3 of its dedication for nation-building tasks with the objective of supporting the civil administration in whatever the way possible.

Ministry wanted Army professionals to enhance the knowledge of those new Samurdhi officers on personality, leadership and proper conduct since all of them would be sent to different areas across the country where multi ethnic communities live. A team of instructors of the Army would continue with lectures until 9 December 2017 before the final closing ceremony gets underway.

Brigadier Randula Hathnagoda in his opening remarks to the workshop underlined the timely importance of the workshop and the valuable nature of their services.

Mr Anuradha Dissanayake, District Samurdhi Director, Anuradhapura, Lieutenant Colonel Shashika Perera, Commanding Officer, CAVT, Senior Officers and several senior Samurdhi Officers were also present during the inaugural ceremony.
