New Samurdhi Officers Complete Their Training with Army Instructors

The well-recognized ‘Leadership Training’ course of the Army, which was introduced to newly-appointed Samurdhi Officers at the request of Ministry for Social Empowerment, Welfare and Kandyan Heritage concluded on Monday (11) in all island-wide Army training centres.

The 19-day long workshop, organized by the Army for 1904 newly-appointed Samurdhi Officers, including 1521 female Officers covered the theme, ‘Leadership, Positive Attitudes & Moral Development’ and commenced concurrently on 21 November at seventeen Army-run island-wide training establishments under the guidelines given by the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake.

Meanwhile, HE the President, Maithripala Sirisena, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces last Tuesday (5) evening had a surprise visit to the Minneriya Infantry Training Centre (ITC) where one Army-organized ‘Leadership Training’ Course, got underway.

Hon S.B Dissanayake, Minister for Social Empowerment, Welfare and Kandyan Heritage, together with a few senior Samurdhi Officers, visited all those training establishments during past 14 days where such programmes took place.

The programme coincided with the Commander’s visionary concept that the Army should always set apart one third of its contribution for nation-building and reconciliation.

Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake, Commander of the Army in response to the request made by the Ministry of Social Empowerment, Welfare and Kandyan Heritage in this regard through the Ministry of Defence has accordingly instructed the Army Director General Training, Major General Vijitha Ravipriya to coordinate and facilitate the request.

The certificate awarding ceremony for participants took place during a simple ceremony at different training establishments in the presence of respective training school Commandants of the Army.
