New Officers' Mess Adds New Look to Elite Commando Regiment

A state-of-the-art new Officers’ Mess building with modern facilities at Ganemulla-based - Commando Regiment (CR) of Sri Lanka Army was vested in Officers on Friday (4) during a ceremony, graced by Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake, Commander of the Army as the Chief Guest at the invitation of its Colonel of the Regiment, CR, Major General Ralph Nugera.

On arrival at the premises, the Commander was received by Major General Ralph Nugera, Colonel of the Regiment, CR, together with of Senior Officers and several others.

The Chief Guest was as the auspicious minute struck unveiled a plaque, warmed the new building and walked through the new Officers’ Mess after cutting a ceremonial ribbon.

The Chief Guest, flanked by senior officers had a thorough look inside and inquired into the facilities available for officers in the new Officers’ Mess after visiting several rooms, lobby area and Visitors’ area.

In appreciation of the Commander’s presence and his interest shown towards the project, Major General Ralph Nugera, Colonel of the Regiment, CR presented a symbolic memento to the Chief Guest at the same occasion.

Later on, by signing the Visitors’ Book the Chief Guest added symbolic memory to his visit and the opening of new Officers' Mess in the premises.

Towards the end of the day’s formalities, the Commander of the Army presented a gift voucher to the Colonel of the Regiment, Commando Regiment to be used for the welfare of soldiers.

The project was initiated in the year 2015 and brought to completion in the year 2018 with the funds, provided by the Army Headquarters, Commando Regiment and a few other sponsors.

Mrs Chandrika Senanayake, President, Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) was present during the ceremony.
