New MIR Colonel of the Regiment Speaks to All Ranks

Major General Kamal Gunaratne, the newly appointed Colonel of the Regiment, Mechanized Infantry Regiment (MIR) had his formal first visits to the MIR Brigade, 1 & 4 Battalions of MIR in the North on Sunday (27).

The visiting Colonel of the Regiment with the intention of getting an update from serving troops inspected their accommodation facilities and shared views with them particularly on their day today concerns and personal needs.

Major General Gunaratne on arrival at the venue was welcomed in a Guard Turnout by the Commander, Mechanized Infantry Brigade, Colonel H.M.S Herath at the entrance. Prior to that Major General Gunaratne unveiled the main signboard at the gate of the Headquarters.

Afterwards, Major General Kamal Gunaratne declared opened a renovated guard room and the newly-constructed office complex at Brigade Headquarters.

Planting of a tree sapling in the premises, signing of the visitors’ book and a fellow tea party with all ranks ended the visit to the Brigade Headquarters.

Thereafter, Major General Gunaratne visited 1 & 4 Battalions serving in the area. He also addressed all ranks in 1 & 4 Battalions.

During the visit to the 4 MIR, Major General Gunaratne opened the newly-constructed Officers’ Mess which was a long-felt need.

Brigadier A.M.S.B Atapattu, Brigadier A.G.D.N Jayasundara, Colonel L.S Balachandra, Centre Commandant of MIR and several senior officers were associated with the visit of the Colonel of the Regiment.
