New Military Hospital Complex to be Opened Soon

“Surroundings as well as the landscape in a public health institute, like the upcoming country’s second largest hospital with 1043 beds, should be of pleasing and beautiful nature to the naked eye, giving mental relief to the patient before the actual physical medical treatment proper is given,” remarked the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake when he visited the new Military Hospital complex receiving finishing touches at Narahenpita this morning (26) for the second time in less than 40 days.

Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, accompanied by Major General E.P de Z Abeysekara, Deputy Chief of Staff, Major General Sanjeewa Munasinghe, Medical Advisor, Brigadier K.P Sumanapala, Director Medical Services, senior officers, Commanding Officers of Engineer Services Regiment and the Military Hospital visited the ten-storied hospital construction, now fast nearing completion.

He toured the building complex and spoke to a couple of foreign technicians, attending to the erection of modular operating theatres and the Army workforce working there. Similarly, the Commander inspected the facilities available to all Engineer troops on duty in the complex, including sanitary facilities.

During his stay there, the Commander, together with officers responsible discussed possibilities of completing this mammoth project at least by the end of this year.

“We are indeed grateful to the President and the Secretary Defence for allocation of grants to this worthy cause for the benefit of thousands of Sri Lankan soldiers. Since we are the best in managing things, we must be able to overcome any technical problems or otherwise when such tasks are performed. Similarly, transparency in all dealings should always be maintained. Our targets are set and achievements have to be made. It is equally important that the new surroundings and environmental landscape remain eye-catching and pleasing to the mind of everyone who enters this premises. A patient who comes once should not be made to come again because the mere environment could provide a healing sight,” the Commander told the officers in charge of the complex.

The new hospital complex with its diagnostic facilities in radiology as well as in pathology complements more space and better health care since Narahenpita Military Hospital serves as the central wing to all island-wide peripheral Army medical units.

Equipped with most modern and sophisticated MRI scanners, a roof-top chopper pad, automatic x-ray screening machinery and a host of state-of-the-art technicalities of the best quality, the new Military Hospital complex is to be entirely manned by professionally-trained Army personnel for both administrative and medical duties.

The Commander underlining the importance of proper and sustained maintenance of the new utility complex, instructed those responsible for the overall construction of the complex to adhere to expected deadlines of completion.
