New Kilinochchi Commander Assumes Office

Major General Niyshshanka Ranawana assumed office as the 11th Commander, Security Forces - Kilinochchi (SF-KLN) amid a brief formal ceremony, held at the Security Force Headquarters - Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN) on Wednesday (18).

He served as the General Officer Commanding, 11 Division before he was appointed as the Kilinochchi Commander.

The day's ceremony included a traditional Guard Turn Out and a Guard of Honour, presented by 24 Gemunu Watch and 3 Gajaba Regiment troops at the SFHQ-KLN respectively.

After lighting the traditional oil lamp, he observed religious rites and rituals of all four major denominations before he signed a formal document to signify the acceptance of his new office. To symbolize the inauguration, Major General Niyshshanka Ranawana planted a sandalwood sapling at the Headquarter compound and added memories before he joined an all rank tea table in the premises.

He succeeds Major General Ajith Kariyakarawana who was appointed as the new Deputy Chief of Staff.
