New Jaffna Commander Assumes Office

MAJOR General L.B.R Mark assumed office as Commander, Security Forces, Jaffna this morning (28) after a brief ceremony, attended by religious dignitaries and senior Army and tri-service officers.   

Major General L.B.R Mark succeeds Major General G.P.R de Silva who assumed duties as Chief of Staff, Joint Staff-Office of the Chief of Defence Staff in Colombo. 

On his arrival at the Security Forces Headquarters, Jaffna (SFHQ-J), the new Jaffna Commander inspected the Guard Turn-out accorded to him before he received the Guard of Honor given by the soldiers of 4th Battalion of Gemunu Watch.

Later on, religious dignitaries representing Buddhist, Hindu, Islamic and Christian denominations invoked blessings on his new appointment after he lit the traditional oil lamp upon entering the office premises. At the auspicious minute, he initialed the first document to signify the acceptance of the office. 

After the inauguration of his office, Major General Mark addressed all ranks at the SFHQ-J indoor stadium after he joined others for tea. Senior officers, officers and soldiers at SFHQ- J took part in the function.

An old product of St. Anthony’s College of Wattala, he joined the Army on 28th April 1980.  He held a number of senior appointments before he was appointed the Jaffna Commander. He has served as General Officer Commanding-51 Division, Brigade Commander, 233 Brigade, Commander, Sub Area Headquarters – Rathnapura, Centre Commandant – Gemunu Watch and 542 Brigade Commander before he was posted to Jaffna.  

He also has followed National Defence University course in China, Asia Pacific Conference (USA) course and a few more.
