Major W.T.G. Abeywardena of the Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (SLEME), established a new Sri Lankan record in the Hammer-Throwing by winning a Gold medal in the selection competition for the Veterans’ South Asian Athletic Meet, scheduled for September in Japan. The selection competitions took place at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium, Diyagama where 600 leading athletes participated.
Major Abeywardana is currently working in the 515 Brigade of the Security Force Headquarters Jaffna (SFHQ-J). He is now qualified to represent Sri Lanka in the Veterans’ South Asian Athletic Meet. Let us hope he would shine and bring honours to the Army.
