New Golden Fence Around Bodhiya at Army Temple Unveiled

The newly-erected golden fence ‘Ran Veta’ around the sacred Bodhiya at Sri Bodhirajaramaya (Army temple) in Panagoda was unveiled this evening (3) on account of Unduvap Poya Day during a simple religious ceremony.

Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake at the invitation of the Army Buddhist Association, chaired by Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe, Commander, Security Forces – West, unveiled the new golden fence around the Bodhiya, amid chanting of ‘Pirith’ by members of the Maha Sangha.

Each gold-plated pillar, 3.5 ft in height was produced, thanks to the generosity, extended by island-wide All Ranks in the organization. The new golden fence replaced the old fence around the sacred tree since it remained beyond repairs.

Executive members in the Army Buddhist Association with the support of Army Engineers produced those gold-plated pillars under the guidance of Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe, Chairman, Army Buddhist Association within a matter of few months.

Soon after the auspicious unveiling, a ‘Bodhi Pooja’ Pinkama got underway with the participation of a large gathering of devotees. Most Ven Dr Mabulgoda Sumanarathana Nayake Thero, Chief Incumbent at Brahakmanagama Duwa Purana Viharaya, Patron - Sri Lanka Army Buddhist Association administered religious observances during the Bodhi Pooja.

Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe, Commander, Security Forces - West, a gathering of Senior Officers, Officers, Other Rankers, devotees and members of the Army Buddhist Association were present during the meritorious act.
