Major General Shavendra Silva, the new General Officer Commanding (GOC) in the 53 Division assumed duties on Thursday (21) morning during a simple ceremony at the 53 Division Headquarters, Inamaluwa, Dambulla.
The newly-appointed GOC, Major General Shavendra Silva signed a formal document to signify the acceptance of the new office.
Afterwards, he planted a tree sapling to mark his assumption of duties.
A Guard Turnout presented by the troops of the 53 Division saluted the new GOC, 53 Division during the event.
Several senior officers, including Brigade Commanders, Commanding Officers and other ranks serving under the 53 Division attended the occasion.
