New GOC of 56 Division Brigadier Dematanpitiya Takes Office

Brigadier Prabath Dematanpitiya on Wednesday (18) assumed duties as the new General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 56 Division of the Security Force Headquarters – Wanni (SFHQ-W) during a simple ceremony.

In accordance with military traditions, Brigadier Prabath Dematanpitiya reviewed a Guard Turnout on arrival at the premises after he was welcomed by senior officers of the 56 Division. Afterwards, a Guard of Honour, presented by the troops of the 56 Division saluted the new GOC.

A brief religious ceremony invoked blessings on the new office of Brigadier Prabath Dematanpitiya who symbolically afterwards placed his signature for a formal document to signify the acceptance of the office. Planting of a tree sapling and a tea table culminated the day’s ceremony.

Brigade Commanders, Commanding Officers and Senior Officers were also present at the occasion.
