New DSCSC's Joint War Gaming Centre Vested in Student Officers

 
The  newly-erected Joint War Gaming Centre of the Sapugaskanda Defence Service Command and Staff College (DSCSC), consists of  six syndicate rooms, two state-of-the art auditoriums, two model rooms and an office complex for Directing Staff was vested in student officers on Thursday (30) during a simple ceremony.

The ceremony commenced with the unveiling of a commemorative plaque and cutting of the symbolic ribbon amidst the chanting of Seth Pirith by General  Jagath  Jayasuriya, Chief of Defence Staff in the company of Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, Commander of the Army, Senior Navy and Air Force Officers.

Members of the Board of Management, senior officials of the Ministry of Defence and Urban Development, The DSCSC Commandant, members of the faculty and permanent staff were also present during the occasion. 

The Joint War Gaming Centre was a long-felt requirement at the DSCSC as it is rapidly gaining its due status on par with other Staff Colleges in the whole of Asia. After opening, distinguished guests took time off to see for themselves going round the facility and witness the “Exercise Purple Turtle” a wargame, played by the Student Officers of the ongoing Course No 8, which is also the final tactical exercise of the Course.

The DSCSC is the highest seat of military learning for middle-grade officers from the Sri Lanka Army, Navy and Air Force. The standards of the College have been recognized by friendly foreign countries, thus sending 16 officers from Bangladesh, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Maldives, Nepal, Oman, Pakistan, Rwanda, Senegal and Vietnam for training at the College.

The College expects to expand its international horizons further by offering more training opportunities to the friendly nations in 2015.
