New Delhi Based Defence Attaches Congratulate Commander on Productive Seminar Sessions

“By the time you all arrive in Sri Lanka for the 2013 Defence Seminar next time, we will not have a single ‘R’, meaning the 5Rs (Reconstruction, Resettlement, Rehabilitation, Reintegration and Reconciliation) that can be taken up for deliberations since they would not remain as issues any longer in Sri Lanka upon their successful implementation,” so quipped, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army when a delegation of New Delhi-based Defence Attaches, called on him at the Army Headquarters Tuesday (14) morning.

Those New Delhi-based Defence Attaches (DAs) of Ghana, Indonesia, Kenya, Namibia, Nigeria, Russia, Senegal, Sudan and Turkey who were in Sri Lanka to attend the ‘Defence Seminar-2012’ (Aug 8-10), met the Commander of the Army and expressed their appreciation and gratitude for the successful completion of the seminar sessions which were very productive in their opinion.

The delegation, comprised of Air Commodore Rex Krakue (Ghana), Colonel Putu Suardika (Indonesia), Colonel Patrick A Amogola (Kenya), Major General A.C Shalumbu (Namibia), Colonel S.G Hafast (Nigeria), Colonel Konstantin Vasiliev (Russia), Colonel Ousmane Sar (Senegal), Brigadier M.F Hamid (Sudan), Colonel Mehmet Darusun (Turkey) and Captain N. Kalubowila (Sri Lanka) during their cordial meeting with the Army Chief, opined that the post-conflict development, now in progress in the north and east provinces, is highly impressive and remarkable since much has been done after the completion of the war.

Some of them, who had toured Sri Lanka’s north and east in late 1990s during ceasefires, etc, maintained that they were ‘surprised’ at the pace with which recovery and development is taking place in those areas. ‘This was evident during our tour to the north and east a few days ago,’ they said.

Lieutenant General Jayasuriya spoke high of the co-operation given by those delegates for the successful completion of the seminar sessions and expressed confidence that the delegates would carry information on ground realities before the international community in the future.

Exchange of mementos towards the end of the cordial meeting, saw those delegates bid goodbye to the Army Chief on the eve of their departure to New Delhi.
