New Commander Calls on Mahanayaka &;amp; Visits Dalada Maligawa

PAYING his highest regards to the religious sentiments, Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya visited Kandy on Saturday (18) to offer his respect to Sri Dalada Maligawa and call on the supreme seat of Buddhism, Mahanayakas (prelates) of Malwatta and Asgiriya Chapters in accordance with age old traditions. 

Lieutenant General Jayasuriya and Mrs. Manjulika Jayasuriya were received on arrival at the historic Temple of Tooth by Diyawadana Nilame, Nilanga Dela Bandara.

Lieutenant General Jayasuriya and the retinue offered trays of Jasmine flowers to the Temple of the Tooth and received blessings in the inner chamber of the temple. 

Afterwards, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya called on Malwatte Chapter Mahanayaka Most Ven. Thibbatuwe Sri Sumangala Thero in accordance with traditions in Sri Lanka. During the interaction with the Mahanayaka, Lieutenant General Jayasuriya recalled steps that were taken by him to rebuild and renovate places of religious importance in Wanni during his tenure as Commander Security Forces Headquarters, Wanni.

He also told the Mahanayaka that he in the same spirit would work to help restoration of dilapidated and destroyed places of worship. He also told the Mahanayaka how he renovated the Holy Madhu Shrine to his pristine glory after terrorists destroyed a section of the religious complex.

Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya offered Ata Pirikara to the Malwatte Mahanayaka and received his blessings for his new appointment. 

The Asgiriya Mahanayaka Most Ven. Udugama Sri Buddarakkita Thero is to be met shortly since the prelate was away from Kandy for an urgent commitment at the time of the Commander's unit.
