New Central Commander Assumes Office

Major General Kumudu Perera assumed duties as the 7th Commander of the Security Forces – Central (SF-C) on Sunday (4) during a brief ceremony, held at the Security Force Headquarters – Central (SFHQ-C).

Major General Kumudu Perera amid ‘Seth Pirith’ chanting placed his signature in an official document, symbolizing the formal acceptance of his new appointment at the auspicious minute.

A series of military formalities got underway at the SFHQ-C in connection with the welcome ceremony of the newly-appointed Commander, at the ‘Rendezvous’ parade square at the SFHQ-C. A Guard Turnout and a Guard of Honour presented by the troops of the 9 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) after his arrival saluted him.

He afterwards addressed the troops at the SFHQ-C premises.

General Officers Commanding (GOC) in all Divisions, Brigade Commanders, Commanding Officers serving the SFHQ-C were present at the occasion along with a gathering of other senior officers and Other Ranks.

Major General Kumudu Perera joined the Army on 5 March 1984 under the Intake 19 and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant on 16 November 1985. He was the Chief of Staff at the Office of Chief of Defence Staff prior to taking over the new appointment. He also has served as the Colonel General Staff in 55 Division and commanded 551 Brigade, 51, 55, 59 and 22 Divisions. He also served as Director Training of the Army Headquarters, Director of the Army Directorate of Welfare and Commandant at Sri Lanka Military Academy (SLMA).
