New Birth at Renovated Mulathivu District Hospital Heralds Onset of New Era

 
THE re-opening of the newly-renovated Mulathivu District Hospital after a lapse of over 30 years heralded a new era of durable peace and prosperity as birth of the first new born infant in the hospital was also reported, just a couple of hours before the new re-opening on Thursday (25).

The renovated District Hospital, open round the clock to the public with its emergency unit, maternity wards, children’s wards, medical officer and Nursing quarters, ambulance service, etc was provided all necessary repairs by the Army and the District Secretary Mrs. Emelda Sukumar. Major General Athula Jayawardhane, Commander Security Forces Headquarters, Mulathivu (SFHQ-M) extended his support to the project.

The opening ceremony was graced by Major General G.A Chandrasiri (Retd) Governor for North as Chief Guest in the company of Mrs. Sukumar, Mr. Rasanayagam, Secretary to Northern Province Dr. K Akilan, Director, Provincial Health Services, Dr. Gnanajothi, District Health Services Director and a member of other invitees.

The re-opening during morning hours was received with heartening news that the first infant was also born at about 4.00 a.m. on Thursday (25) when the renovated hospital was about to be opened, that day.

The Hospital is to provide a home-pick service round the clock in the event of any emergency situation as far as the people in the district are concerned.

Army troops on the instruction of the new SFHQ-M tirelessly worked day and night for the fruition of the project.
