Brigadier S.H.F.P. Perera, assumed duties as the new General Officer Commanding (GOC), 61 Division of the Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W) during a simple ceremony on Wednesday (5) at the 61 Divisional Headquarters, Wennankulam.
In accordance with military traditions, Brigadier Perera reviewed the Guard Turnout on arrival at the premises after he was welcomed by senior officers of the 61 Division. Afterwards, a Guard of Honour, presented by the 61 Division troops saluted the new chief of the 61 Division.
A brief religious ceremony invoked blessings on the new office and the new GOC placed his signature for a formal document to signify the acceptance of the office. Planting of a tree sapling and participating in a tea table culminated the ceremony.
Commanders of 611,612 and 613 Brigades, Commanding Officers, officers and other ranks attended the ceremony.
