New ‘Yoghurt’ Unit Inside the Camp to Buy More Milk from Civilians

Purchase of more and more quantities of milk from dairy farmers in Kilinochchi is to be further expanded after the Army’s Yoghurt producing unit at the 6 (Volunteer) Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps (SLAWC) Security Force Headquarters - Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN), moved into a more spacious new building, enabling the producers to sell fresh yoghurts to both Army personnel and civilians alike.

The project is to increase the purchasing quantity of cow milk from civilians at the rate of Rs 80/= per litre after the new machinery is to be installed in the new building.

6 (V) SLAWC troops in Kilinochchi began this project some time ago and became successful as time went on, forcing producers to move into a larger production centre inside their camp.

11 Battalion of Corps of Engineer Services (CES) under the supervision of the Forward Maintenance Area Headquarters at Kilinochchi constructed the new building at the request of the SFHQ-KLN.

The opening ceremony of the new building took place on Friday (13), headed by Major General Amal Karunasekara, Commander, Security Forces - Kilinochchi. He ceremonially handed over the new building to the 6 (V) SLAWC in a symbolic ribbon-cutting and plaque-opening.

On arrival at the 6 (V) SLAWC Headquarters premises, Kilinochchi Commander was greeted to a Guard Turn Out as a military formality. He was also requested to plant a sapling in the premises as a symbol of memory on the eve of his departure from the SFHQ-KLN to assume office as the new Commandant at Defence Services Command and Staff College.

The opening ceremony was attended by Brigadier Dammika Kariyawasam, Commander, Forward Maintenance Area - Kilinochchi, Brigadier Jagath Rathnayake, Brigadier General Staff, SFHQ-KLN, Colonel Kumara Handunmulla, Brigadier Admin and Quartering, SFHQ-KLN, officers and other ranks of 6 (V) SLAWC.
