Negombo District Hospital staff, concerned about the well-being of children of fallen War Heroes in Negombo and its suburbs recently organized a programme for distribution of scholarships among those children.
The simple ceremony that awarded 12 scholarships, each worth Rs 10,000/= plus parcels of books took place at Hospital Auditorium as the second phase of the project. Those medical officers and staff raised funds for the project by staging a public walk and a special medical exhibition.
Dr Channa Perera, Dr Champa Aluthweera, Dr A.R.M Fowzie, Medical Superintendent, Dr Rasika Liyanage, Dr M.P Ruwan and several organizers of the project were present on the occasion. The same organization earlier donated 75 more such scholarships. Mrs Kanchana Hearth, senior member in the Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB) and several SVAB staffers took part in the distribution ceremony.
