Nation-Building Troops Complete Repairs to More Than Two Dozen of Irrigational Tanks

Sri Lanka Army troops, throwing their full weight behind the Presidential Secretariat’s ‘Sirisara Pivisuma’ nation-building project in the year 2017, had succeeded in complete renovation and reconstruction of 24 irrigational tanks in the Trincomalee District, said the Director (Constructions), ‘Sirisara Pivisuma’ Project during an interview with a private TV station on Sunday (29).

In addition, work is on to repair 25 more abandoned irrigational tanks in the same region by the end of this year. 9 abandoned tanks have been prioritized under this project considering populations living in adjacent areas. Ganthalawa tank was the such Army repaired irrigational tank declared opened by HE the President in July 2017.

Under the same ‘Sirisara Pivisuma’ is also set to prepare and repair school playgrounds, roads, temples, public buildings, teachers’ quarters, community halls, mosques, Kovils, markets, school buildings, etc at the request of respective village level authorities.

Sri Lanka Army Engineers in earnest began to contribute to this worthy cause as per directions of the Commander of the Army who envisages that one third of the Army should always contribute to the nation-building tasks by way of strengthening bonds of mutual understanding, reconciliation and goodwill in poverty-stricken areas.
