Murali Harmony Cup Ends With Impressive Records

The Murali Harmony T20 Cricket tournament, organized by the Security Force Headquarters - Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN), together with the Guna Jaya Sathuta Padanama (Foundation of Goodness) concluded on Sunday (25) at Kilinochchi Central Collage ground. 

The T-20 cricket tournament got underway for 05 days under the guidance of Major General Amal Karunasekara, Commander SF-KLN and with the support of world famous cricketers, Muttaiah Muralidaran, Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardena. 

The ‘Murali Harmony’ cup cricket tournament made up of many school cricketers was meant to promote unity, goodwill, teamwork, the spirit of fair play and service to rural communities. The tournament was an opportunity for the youth of the area to display their sporting skills and bolster their self confidence, according to the organizers.

A total of 24 teams consisted of 16 male teams and 8 females teams participated in the tournament. The final match (male) was played between Mahinda College - Galle and Nalanda College - Colombo.

After a close tussle, Mahinda College - Galle won the finals and carried away the trophy.

The women’s competition, was played between sports clubs of Matale ladies and Nittambuwa Ladies. Finally, the Nittambuwa Ladies won the trophy.  

Sri Lanka National team veterans and former world famous cricketers, Muttaiah Muaralidaran and Micheal Tissera, Mr. Kushil Gunasekara, together with Brigadier Dammika Kariyawasam, Commander FMA (KLN), Brigadier Sarath Weerawardena, General Officer Commanding - 65 Division, Brigadier Anura Sudasinghe, General Officer Commanding - 57 Division, Brigadier Jagath Rathnayake - BGS (SFHQ-KLN), Mahesh Welikanna - DIG, Kilinochchi, Mr Ashan Malalasekara, Chairman - Arinma Holdings & Trustee Foundation of Goodness, Mr. Dashantha Udawaththa  Group Marketing Manager – Tokyo Cement, school principal and staff of the ‘Foundation of Goodness’  and a large crowd of spectators witnessed the final event, played at the Kilinochchi Central college ground.
