More Houses in Jaffna Returned to Legitimate Owners


23 more houses of civilians, hitherto used by Army troops serving under the 51 Division in the Jaffna peninsula on rent basis were handed over to the Divisional Secretariat for return to their respective legitimate owners during a brief ceremony on Saturday (25).

Headquarters and Company bases of 9 Sri Lanka National Guard (9 SLNG), 23 Gajaba Regiment (23 GR), 25 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (25 VIR), 11 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (11 SLSR) and 14 Gemunu Watch (14 GW) accordingly moved out from those houses and established their formations elsewhere in state-owned lands.    

General Officer Commanding, 51 Division, Brigadier Chula Abeynayake, together with respective Commanding Officers, delivered documents, pertaining to those houses to Divisional Secretaries of Santhilppay, Thelippalai, Uduvil and Jaffna on the occasion.        

The programme, in line with the government’s policy of returning public property, was implemented under the directions of Major General Udaya Perera, Commander, Security Forces Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ - J).
