A newly-constructed Shrine Room in Veherathannna Roshan Mahanama Primary School was vested in the school children and the public for veneration recently by the Chief Incumbent of Sri Vajiraramaya Temple, Bambalapitiya, Ven. Thirikunamalaye Ananda thero with the participation of members of ‘Sri Vajirarama Sasana Sevika Sangamaya’ who funded the construction.
This meritorious act was coordinated by Mr. Lakshman Mahanama, Secretary for Sri Vajirarama Dayaka Sabha, Bambalapitiya.
This Primary School and the Pre-school located in the same premises are a generous gift by former veteran cricketer Mr. Roshan Mahanama through his personal finances.
Currently, many well-wishers have come forward to support the school with the intention of enhancing the facilities for students and to uplift the standard of the school.
On the same day of the opening of the new shrine room, a new Tube Well, installed with the funds of Candila Aid PLC was also symbolically commissioned for the use of students. In addition, a stock of valuable books were donated to the library by Mr. Rajitha Fernando.
Meanwhile, a new house built by 19 Gajaba Regiment troops to a needy family in Bogaswewa was also symbolically handed over to the recipients after the main ceremony was over. The house cost Rs. 900,000.00 for donors. Towards the end of the programme donors gave away a large stock of essentials and dry rations among a large section of Bogaswewa and Veherathenna residents.
The event was graced by veteran cricketer Mr. Roshan Mahanama and Commander, Security Forces-Wanni, Major General Kumudu Perera as distinguished guests and General Officer Commanding, 62 Division, Brigade Commanders of 563 and 623 Brigades, Senior Officers, Officers and number of civilians in the area.
