More Displaced Go Back to Their Original Homes

COMPLETING another phase of resettling IDPs (Internally Displaced Persons), civil administrative authorities in the east resettled two hundred and ninety eight families in their own villages recently.

Those families were initially registered and then sent to their former living places after a lapse of three years.

After the entire east was liberated from LTTE terrorists by Army troops during Humanitarian Operations, intensive search and clear operations were conducted by Security Forces and the Police to clear the areas of LTTE mines and booby traps in order to ensure the safe living environment for civilians before re-settlement.

One hundred and sixty four families were resettled in different Divisions in Trincomalee while Batticaloa and Ampara provided homes for eighty three and fifty one families respectively.

In this latest phase, a total number of nine hundred and sixty seven civilians who had been living in IDP relief villages in Vavuniya were resettled in their old homesteads.
