Monks Offer Cooked Food to Madu Civilians


Contrary to the practice of offering alms to members of the Maha Sangha by the laity, a group of 13 monks with the support of 54 Division troops in Mannar, recently offered a sumptuous lunch treat to over 500 Tamil, Muslim and Sinhalese civilians during a special programme, held at Sri Bodhiraja Temple, Madu, Mannar.
 
The move organized as a gesture of goodwill and reconciliation saw some gift parcels containing school accessories too distributed among students in the area.  

Three Buddhist priests, led by Ven Kelaeliye Sudarshi Nayaka Thero and ten more monks at Madu Sri Bodhiraja Temple after inviting those civilians living in Madu Grama Seva Division as the first item in the programme conducted a religious programme to invoke blessings on those civilians with Pirith Chanting after all of them were served with a hot lunch, organized by those monks with the support of 54 Division troops.

54 Division General Officer Commanding, Brigadier M.A.M Dias with his senior officers and troops, several state officials, Grama Seva Officials and a large gathering of school children attended the event.
