MoD Seva Vanitha Clears Mortgage &;amp; Army Seva Vanitha Builds War Hero's House

The Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB), devoted much to the provision of the needs of battle-injured War Heroes, once again offered its hand of assistance and friendship to one more War Hero at Matale on Friday (11), having built a fully equipped new house for his use.

The SVAB funded new house, worth over Rs. 1 million was symbolically handed over to the War Hero, Private T.D.G.D Prabhath Kumara (22) of 9 Gajaba Regiment  by Mrs Ioma Rajapaksa, President, Seva Vanitha Branch at Ministry of Defence (MoD), the Chief Guest for the occasion at the invitation of Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya, President, SVAB.

The War Hero before he lost his vision in both eyes, following serious injuries he sustained in Kilinochchi in 2008 while fighting against terrorists, had mortgaged his land to the bank with the intention of building a house, but the unexpected physical disability stalled the construction and shattered all his hopes for a glittering future.

The Seva Vanitha Branch at Ministry of Defence, having learnt the pathetic plight of the blind War Hero, finally intervened and got the land released from mortgage at first before the SVAB undertook the project for constructing this new house to the War Hero.

Mrs Ioma Rajapaksa was warmly received by Mrs Jayasuriya on arrival at the site of the house on Friday (11) as the stage was set to begin the day’s proceedings. Paying gratitude to the memory of all fallen War Heroes, all the invitees observed a two-minute silence at the start of the day’s agenda.

After the welcome speech, the Chief Guest unveiled a special plaque on the new house and declared it opened. Mrs Rajapaksa symbolized the handover by offering the keys of the house to the War Hero, surrounded by his next of kin and other associates.

As tears rolled down his cheeks in glee, all the invitees including the recipient lit the traditional oil lamp, boiled the auspicious pot of milk and warmed the house in accordance with age-old traditional rites and rituals.

Major General S.W.L Daulagala, Colonel of the Gajaba Regiment, Mrs Daulagala and a representative gathering of SVAB members attended the occasion.
