MIR Regimental Headquarters Equipped with New Building Complex

Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva, Commander of the Army on Friday (26) at the invitation of the Colonel Commandant of the Regiment, Mechanized Infantry Regiment (MIR), Major General Kamal Gunaratne went to the MIR Regimental Headquarters at Dambulla to open several newly-built constructions in the compound and meet the troops. 

A formal Guard Turnout and a Guard of Honour, presented by MIR troops upon his arrival at the venue honoured him in accordance with military formalities after he was warmly received by Major General Kamal Gunaratne. 

The newly-constructed Non Commissioned Officers’ (NCOs) club, two-storied accommodation billets for officers and other rankers, the spacious library building and the new yard for Infantry Carrying Vehicles (ICV) and Armoured Personnel Carriers (APC) at the MIR premises were ceremonially opened by the visiting Commander of the Army as the day’s Chief Guest during his visit to the premises.

Soon after the openings, the Commander of the Army spoke to a gathering of MIR officers at the office complex.

Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva at the same time made use of his time to address MIR troops who have assembled there. During his brief talk to them, he commended their demanding roles and tasks and insisted the importance of maintaining the status quo with highest standards of discipline and commitment to the service.

During his stay in the premises, he was invited to plant a tree sapling as a token of memory to the visit of the Commander of the Army to the venue. He also left his signature in the visitors’ book at the MIR Headquarters as another token of goodwill and recollection.

Lieutenant General De Silva during his stay there supervised the kitchen complex at the MIR Headquarters and shared a couple of thoughts with the troops serving there.

Major General Kamal Gunaratne before the Commander’s exit from Dambulla presented him with a memento, representing all in the Regiment.
