MIR Colonel of the Regiment Relinquishes to Take Over SLLI

The Mechanized Infantry Regiment (MIR) gave a farewell ceremony to itsoutgoing Colonel of the Regiment, Major General Ruwan Kulatunga on Saturday (17) at its Regimental Headquarters in Dambulla.

The day’s proceedings commenced with a Guard Turn Out, presented in honour of the outgoing Colonel of the Regiment at the entrance to the MIR Headquarters. Colonel H.M.U Herath, Centre Commandant, MIR and the Brigade Commander, Mechanized Infantry Brigade, Colonel L.S Balachandra afterwards warmly welcomed Major General Ruwan Kulatunga at the parade ground.

A separate Guard of Honour was also accorded to him by the MIR troops comprised of Infantry Carrying Vehicles (ICVs) and Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs).

After the ceremonial parade, the outgoingColonel of the Regiment was invited to open the newly-constructed Guard Room at the MIR Regimental Centre.

Soon after the opening ceremony, the outgoing Colonel of the Regiment addressed all troops and Officers separately, reminding them the importance of developing professional knowledge through trainingand commitment towards development of the Regiment.

Finally, a‘Farewell Dinner’,was hosted to him by MIR Officers. The outgoing Chairperson of MIR-SVU, Mrs Thushari Kulatunga and several members of the MIR-SVU were present at the occasion.

On Sunday (18), Major General Ruwan Kulatunga officially handed over the duties and left the MIR Headquarters.
