Military Police Carry Away Championship in Inter Regiment Boxing Tournament

The four-day long ‘Inter Regiment Boxing Tournament (novices)’ at Panagoda Army Physical Training Institute’s indoor stadium ended recently giving victory to the Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police (SLCMP).

SLCMP boxers after a close tussle with their rivals emerged winners with 31 points whereas boxers of Sri Lanka Army Service Corps (SLASC) and Sri Lanka Armoured Corps (SLAC) secured 2nd and 3rd places respectively with 23 and 16 points.

The tournament commenced on April 24, was contested by 16 regimental boxing teams under 49 Kg, 52 kg, 56 Kg, 60 Kg, 64 Kg, 69 Kg, 75 Kg, 81 Kg, 91 Kg and over 91 Kg weight class categories.

Private A.L Amarasinghe of SLCMP became the Best Boxer in the tournament and the Best Loser was Private S.A.A.D Chandimal of SLASC.

During the tournament, SLAC, SLE, SLCMP, SLASC, SLLI and GW boxers claimed championships before the final encounter. Major General R.M.D Ratnayake, Chairman, Army Sports Board witnessed the final tussle as the Chief Guest for the occasion.
