Military Parades to Welcome New Army Commander

MAJOR General Jagath Jayasuriya USP ndu psc, the newly appointed Commander of the Army is to assume office on Wednesday (15) as the 19th Commander of the Sri Lanka Army.

His Excellency, the President Mahinda Rajapakse handed over the appointment to Major General Jayasuriya on Sunday (12) where he made a few more similar appointments in the defence establishment including that of the Chief of Defence Staff and the National Security Advisor to the President.

Major General Jagath Jayasuriya has been the Commander, Security Forces, Wanni since August 2007 until he took over the mantle of responsibilities as the Army Chief. 

Wednesday’s (15) military ceremony at the Army Headquarters includes military honours, religious performances, initialing of documents, all rank tea party, press briefing, address to all officers and his call on Secretary Defence and Chief of Defence Staff later on.    

Major General Jagath Jayasuriya is to be elevated to the rank of Lieutenant General from Wednesday (15).
