Message of 'Peace &;amp; Goodwill' Reverberated in Army Christmas Carols

Sri Lanka Army, contributing its share to the phenomenon of Christmas held its annual Army Christmas Carols service at Cathedral of Christ, the Living Savior, Bauddaloka Mawatha, Colombo 07 Tuesday (18) evening, setting in the Season of Sharing and Caring with compliments of the forthcoming Christmas and the dawn of a New Year in a few days.

First Lady, Mrs Shiranthi Rajapaksa, graced the occasion as a distinguished invitee at the invitation of Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army, Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya, President, Seva Vanitha Army Branch and the Army Christian Fellowship.

The service, organized by the Chairman and the committee of the Army Christian Fellowship conducted in all three major languages-Sinhala, Tamil and English-sang odes jointly to the Prince of the Peace, Jesus Christ and heralded his birth. It also prayed for world peace, goodwill and prosperity.

Rev. Fr. Benadict Joseph, Sri Lanka Army Chaplain, Rt. Rev. Dhiloraj R Canagasabey, Bishop of Colombo, Church of Ceylon, choirs of St. Joseph’s College, St Bridget’s Convent, Sri Lanka Army and the newly formed choir of Viru Daru Children conducted the Carols that rent the air, turning the whole event to be of festive nature.

Contribution to the event by veteran artistes, like Mr Eshantha de Andrado backed by the Army Choir with the most celebrated melody, ‘Holy Night’ came in for praise and appreciation of the congregation. Ms Corin Almeda, Lieutenant Colonel W.B.N.L Fernando and a few others too joined in for separate Choirs.

Singers, Indrani Perera, Anil Bharathi, Ronnie Leitch, Mariazelle Goonetillake and a few other leading artistes, backed by veterans in the Army Choir, added colour and rhythm to the occasion as those soloists appeared before the gathering.

Past Commanders, Retired Senior Army Officers, Major General S.A.A.L Perera, Chairman, Army Christian Fellowship, Senior Army Officers, Officers and Other Ranks with their spouses attended the Christmas Carols-2012.

This is a customary Army event during the Christmas season.
