Memory of Fallen SLA War Heroes Revered in Anniversary Commemorative Ceremonies

Sri Lanka Artillery Regiment (SLA), one of the most prestigious and reputed regiments in the Army launched a series of commemorative events on Monday (20) in connection with its founding day and 127th anniversary, beginning from its Panagoda SLA Regimental Headquarters.

Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva, Commander of the Army as the Chief Guest at the invitation of the SLA Colonel Commandant, Major General Lal Perera joined the inaugural segment of the anniversary events, in which the pride of place, went to the commemoration of fallen SLA War Heroes.

The day’s ceremony of the ‘Gunners’ included a special tribute to the fallen War Heroes, floral-wreath laying and a minute’s silence in honour of fallen War Heroes at the SLA monument by both the Chief Guest, relatives of all fallen SLA War Heroes and attendees, salute to the National Anthem and the Regimental Song, Religious observances of all denominations, etc. The Commander’s arrival was greeted with a formal Guard Turn Out at the entrance to the premises.
               
Major General Lal Perera welcomed the Chief Guest on arrival at the Regimental Centre premises.

The SLA monument was afterwards revered by SLA Colonel Commandant, SLA Brigade Commander, SLA Centre Commandant, and representatives of retired SLA veterans, SLA Unit Commanders, Commandant, SLA Training School and Regimental Warrant Officers in succession soon after the first floral wreath was laid by the day’s Chief Guest.

An all night Pirith chanting ceremony Monday (20) evening, followed by ‘Heel Daana’, was to bring the day’s anniversary programmes to an end.  

Many retired SLA officers, serving officers, relatives of fallen SLA War Heroes and a large gathering attended the inaugural commemorative ceremonies.

Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva, seconds after wreath-laying closely went through the names inscribed on the monument and refreshed his memories, sharing a couple of thoughts with accompanying SLA Colonel Commandant and other senior officers.
