Mega 'Nikini Udanaya' of Special Forces Now Underway at Seeduwa

‘Nikini Udanaya’, the mega trade exhibition cum carnival, organized by troops of the Special Forces (SF) started off Friday (5) evening at Katunayake Dravindra Mendis sports ground, following a brief ceremony headed by Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya who graced the opening as Chief Guest.

Proceeds from this three-day long mega fund-raising event of the Special Forces, headquartered in Seeduwa, Katunayake, are channeled exclusively to provide the maximum possible welfare support to disable SF War Heroes, children and spouses of the War Heroes who either paid the supreme sacrifice or went missing in action during the recent war for peace.

Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army in the company of Colonel of the Regiment and other senior officers declared open the trade fair after lighting the traditional oil lamp to the rhythms of auspicious drums. The trade fair consists of a large number of stalls, replete with clothes, readymade garments, food items, commodities, fancy items, essentials and such like and allocates separate space for children’s activities, in addition to other fun making events in the carnival.

Other features that decorate the site include displays of Army weapons, Army bands, air rifle shooting, dog shows, motorbike riding, etc.

Popular Seeduwa Sakura, Sanidapa and Flashback music bands are expected to back soothing and dancing rhythms of melodies, to be voiced by heart-throbs of our times. On all three days a galaxy of popular pop singers like Shanika Wanigasekara, Shashika Nisansala, Amal Perera, Nelu Adikari, Senanayaka Veraliyadda,Ginger, Supriya, Jolly Seeya, Damith Asanka, Uresha Ravihari, Nihal Nelson and Chamika Sirimanna are to lend their voice too to the mammoth event.
