Medal Parade of 19th UN Contingent Held


The customary medal parade of the 19th Sri Lankan contingent of the UN Peace Keeping Mission (MINUSTAH) in Haiti, was held recently during a formal ceremony, headed by Major General S.W.L Daulagala, Commandant, Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF) as the Chief Guest.

A Guard of Honour, presented by the contingent serving in Haiti, welcomed the Chief Guest after Colonel Harendra Peiris, Commanding Officer, 19th Sri Lankan contingent in Haiti, received the Chief Guest on arrival at the premises.

Ms Sandra Honore, the Special Representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations, Mr Carl Alexandre, Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary General, Lieutenant General Jose Luiz Jaborandy, Junior Force Commander and Brigadier General and Brigadier Jorge Pena Leiva, Deputy Force Commander, MINUSTAH, attended the medal parade.

After award of medals, the Chief Guest met the visiting UN officials and the Deputy Force Commander separately and discussed matters of relevance to UN deployments. Towards the end of these interactions, Major General Daulagala, symbolizing goodwill and understanding, presented mementoes to each of them.
