Mechanized Infantry Regiment Marks its 10th Anniversary

Mechanized Infantry Regiment (MIR) recently marked its 10th anniversary at the MIR Regimental Centre, Dambuluhalmillawewa, Kekirawa with a series of programmes.

The anniversary celebrations commenced earlier with religious activities at the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhiya with the participation of Colonel of the Regiment, MIR Major General Ruwan Kulatunga.

An all-night Pirith-Chanting was held afterwards to invoke blessings at the MIR headquarters with the participation of many all rankers.

Religious programmes who got underway at Kataragama Kiri Vehera and Kataragama Devalaya. A Christian service at Roman Catholic Church - Wahakotte, followed by Hindu and Islamic religious programmes at Galewela Hindu Kovil and Puwakpitiya Mosque respectively.

Military formalities of the anniversary programme began with a Guard Turnout and a Guard of Honour presenting to Colonel of the Regiment, MIR, Major General Ruwan Kulatunga. A total of 40 officers and 600 other ranks representing all 05 Battalions of the MIR participated during the event.

A Dinner Night at the Warrant Officers’ and Sergeants’ Mess brought the programme to end. Centre Commandant, Colonel H.M.U Herath attended the final event as the Chief Guest.
