Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Crisanthe De Silva, all Senior Officers, Officers, Other Rankers and Members of the Civil Staff in the Army wish All of You a very Happy & Prosperous Sinhala & Tamil New Year 2017 !

Here follows the Commander’s New Year Message ;


Sinhala and Tamil New Year, the most celebrated national festival in Sri Lanka harmonizes the humans with nature and strengthens the bonds within the families and the society to promote prosperity and unity. At this special occasion, I wish to extend my greetings and good wishes to all Officers and Other Ranks of the Sri Lanka Army for a happy, healthy and prosperous Sinhala and Tamil New Year.

This colourful festival symbolizes the transition of the Sun from the House of Pisces to the House of Aries. The Sinhala and Tamil New Year which brings people together, irrespective of race, caste or creed, rekindles the bonds that exist between nature and humankind. All Sri Lankans, as citizens of one country come together and step into the New Year with afresh expectations and with the joy of festivity during this season of fellowship, hope and unity.

The Sinhala and Tamil New Year can be considered an occasion where the entire Nation works at the same auspicious time with the same motive with due consideration to the core values and rituals. As the country moves towards prosperity with a spirit of renewal and new beginnings, this festival would bring blessings, embellishing friendship, unity, harmony and cohesion to its citizen. It further strengthens the mutuality and good will within the minds of the people and across the families and the society at large.

The Sri Lanka Army, over the years, has been rendering unparalleled service to our country in ensuring national security with utmost professionalism and commitment in all situations in a commendable manner. As members of the Army, we should strive to safeguard our motherland, whilst fostering a sense of honour amongst its citizens towards the organization.

At the dawn of Sinhala and Tamil New Year, I wish you all continued strength and wisdom in performing your duties with commitment and dedication. It is with deep gratitude, I wish to commend all the serving members for their unwavering integrity, dedication, high standards of professionalism.

Moreover, let me pay my tribute to all war heroes who made the supreme sacrifice, suffered injuries and are recovering from injuries. In conclusion, I once again, thank all the Officers, Other Ranks and Civilian Staff for the innumerable contributions they have made in safeguarding the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our motherland.
