Massive Incentives Distributed among Under-privileged Jaffna Students & Families

‘Daham Pahana’,the musical and spiritual project of the ‘Daham Pahana Foundation’, comprised of religious members mainly led by Brother Charles Thomas who is now popular in interpreting values in musical creation and encouraging inculcation of moral values in society, extended his community service programme to the Jaffna peninsula by way of donating100 push-bicycles, 7500 coconut seedlings, 20 sewing machines, financial grants to a total of 300 students as scholarships and sanitary facilities to 20 low-income group families as a gesture of goodwill towards further boosting the on-going reconciliation moves.

The multi-faceted mega welfare project organized by Major General Dharshana Hettiarrachchi, Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna took place at Ilankai Venthan Art College on Thursday (10) and also on the following day (11) for inauguration constructing a new house for a needy family in the same area.

The first day of the programme kicked off with award of ‘Ran Kekulu’ Savings Accounts to 300 students as scholarships for period of five years.

During the same ceremony 100 push-bicycles were given away among selected school students in remote areas. In addition, 7500 coconut seedlings were distributed among ordinary civilians interested in coconut cultivation.

Giving a helping hand of economic value largely to needy women, selected 20 women received sewing machines each valued at Rs. 20000.00. In another sanitary move, the occasion saw each under privileged household got Rs. 20000.00 each for construction of toilet sanitary facilities.

On the second day (11), the same arrangements laid the cornerstones for construction of a new house for a poor family in the same area after respective state officials recommended the need for this special family.

Religious leaders, Brother Charles Thomas, Members of the Daham Pahana Foundation, Major General Dharshana Hettiarrachchi, Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna, Major General Roshan Senevirathne, General Officer Commanding, 51 Division, Senior Officers, Other Ranks and members of the civil community including Donation Recipients (Student and Parents) from low-income families in Jaffna were associated with both events.
