Many More New Constructions to Come Up at SLAVF Headquarters

The unveiling of the new clock tower and the iconic crest of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF) Headquarters at the entrance, the foundation-stone laying for the new office complex and two new accommodation buildings for other rankers as well as the inauguration of the construction of two holiday bungalows, took place on Wednesday (1) at the SLAVF Headquarters, Kosgama with the objective of reviving the organization’s Headquarters after the recent inferno damaged it.

Major General Boniface Perera, Commandant, SLAVF laid the foundation stones for the proposed two new three-storied accommodation buildings of other rankers, Headquarter office complex and two regimental holiday bungalows at the premises in Salawa, amidst chanting of Seth Pirith.

All those new constructions to be in harmony with the nature and eco-friendliness are to be completed within a few months with the support of Army Engineers and SLAVF troops. It was only a few days ago, the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva at the invitation of the SLAVF Commandant opened the new eco-friendly state-of-the-art three-storied building complex, constructed within 40 days in a land adjacent to the same old SLAVF complex.

The day’s Chief Guest, SLAVF Commandant was afterwards invited to unveil a symbolic plaque and open the new clock tower, 30 feet in height, amid chanting of Seth Pirith by members of the Maha Sangha and the mega crest of the SLAVF, symbolizing its elephant at the entrance to the SLAVF Headquarters. On arrival at the premises the Commandant, SLAVF was welcomed by the SLAVF Deputy Commandant on Wednesday (1) and conducted to the venue for arrangements.

Major General Boniface Perera, Commandant, SLAVF, the architect of the new clock tower and the crest of the SLAVF maintains that those constructions once completed would bring normalcy to the administrative functions of the SLAVF organization which was almost reduced to ashes several months ago.

A troop address and an all rank tea party culminated the day’s proceedings at Salawa. Senior officers, officers and other ranks serving the SLAVF attended the programme.
