Mannar Water Scheme Opened

THE Drinking Water Scheme at Pallemunai, Mannar, a project that provides pure drinking water to over 63,600 people was inaugurated last Thursday (27) during a ceremony, headed by Mr. Hiruhiko Karoda, Chairman, Asian Development Bank and Mr. Basil Rajapaksa (MP), Minister of Economic Development.

The project funded jointly by the Asian Development Bank, Netherlands Trust Fund and the Government of Sri Lanka is to build 330 houses in the area. In addition, a new surgery and two wards built at Mannar Hospital were also declared open on the same day after laying the foundation stone for a water scheme that carries drinking water from Murunkan up to Pallemunai.

The ceremony was attended by Ministers Sarath Amunugama, Rishard Badurdeen, Major General G.A Chandrasiri  (Retd), Governor for North, Major General Kamal Gunarathne, Commander Security Forces, Wanni, District Secretaries, Senior State Officials and a large gathering of civilians in the area.
