Sri Lanka Army troops in Mannar in collaboration with Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) of Mannar recently planted 250 plus saplings of Kumbuk and Mee species in the general areas of Mannar with the intention of supporting the Army’s ‘Thuru Mithuru Nawa Ratak’ project for afforestation and beautification.
CEB has arranged this sapling planting project in connection with their 50th anniversary in order to replenish the forest cover that has been cleared for CEB construction and installation projects.
On the directions of the Commander, Security Forces - Wanni, Major General Rohitha Dharmasiri, troops of the 54 Division under the supervision of the General Officer Commanding, 54 Division, Brigadier Subhashana Welikala organized the sapling planting programme in cooperation with the CEB.
