Major General Mahesh Senanayaka relinquished the appointment of the Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna (SF-J) during a simple military ceremony at the Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J) during March 26 -28.
Major General Mahesh Senanayaka served as the Jaffna Commander for more than one year after he assumed office on 28th January 2016.
The outgoing Commander, SF-J visited 51, 52, 53 Divisions and the Forward Maintenance Area (North), Kankesanthurai during the visits he thanked everyone for their professional contribution and the support extended to him during his office.
Military formalities on Sunday (26) saluted the outgoing Jaffna Commander in a Guard of Honour in keeping with military traditions by the troops of the 10 Field Engineer Regiment.
Meanwhile, a few state agencies including the District Secretary for Jaffna, in a separate felicitation ceremony jointly appreciated the good work, carried out by the outgoing Jaffna Commander.
District Secretary for Jaffna, Mr Nagalingham Vethanayahan and Divisional Secretaries in the Jaffna peninsula who were present at the brief ceremony presented a token of appreciation to Major General Senanayake.
The outgoing Commander, SF-J also, appreciative of the support he got from all state administrators, presented a token of appreciation to Mr Nagalingham Vethanayahan, District Secretary for Jaffna at the same occasion.
Afterwards, both the day’s Chief Guest and the District Secretary for Jaffna took part in a tree planting ceremony along Jaffna - Kayts road.
Major General Mahesh Senanayaka, who rendered a memorable service by way of resettlement, reconciliation and community assistance left his signature in the SFHQ-J Visitors’ Book before his exit.
Major General Mahesh Senanayake who has been appointed as the Chief of Staff of the Army is to resume his new office on Wednesday (29).
