Maduru Oya ATS Seminar Sessions Educate Middle Grade Officers

The second annual seminar of the Maduru Oya Army Training School (ATS) drew to a close on Thursday (7) after a brief closing ceremony. ‘Terrorism, Current Trends and Challenges’ was the theme of the seminar sessions during the two-day seminar.

Major General Rukmal Dias, Commander, Security Forces - Central (SF-C) graced the inauguration as the Chief Guest at the invitation of Brigadier Jayantha Seneviratne, Commandant, ATS, Maduru Oya and delivered the keynote speech.

This year’s audience, comprised of 52 Officers, including 47 Army Officers 5 Navy Officers, 1 Officer from the Sri Lanka Air Force and 2 participants from the Special Task Force, enthusiastically took part in the sessions.

17 senior Army Officers and several other resource personnel contributed their academia to the sessions on both days, followed by several question-answer sessions. Participating groups were also facilitated to present their own syndicated presentations towards the latter part of the seminar.

The Army Training School, being one the premier training establishments in the Sri Lanka Army provides basic and advanced academic forums for both Officers and Other Rankers, including foreign Officers. Those courses are largely meant to address counter insurgency and counter terrorism issues.

The second ATS seminar programmed under the guidance of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake and also with the blessings of the Office of the Director General Army Training, was proved a successful one.

Multifaceted seminar sessions enlightened middle grade Officers on the strategic approach in counter terrorism and encouraged them to conduct research in the field of terrorism and development of methodology for counter terrorist threats.
