LTTE's Last Earth Bund in Army Hands ?

MULLAITTIVU: TROOPS fighting out in the south of KARAYANMULLIVAIKKAL in the remaining strip of land in the ‘No Fire Zone’ captured what was supposed to be the LTTE’s “last earth bund” Thursday (7) morning after a string of pitched battles.

     Troops in the 58 Division amidst stiff LTTE resistance and the enemy’s detonation of explosive devices hit the last LTTE earth bund and dominated it. Several valiant soldiers sustained injuries in the fighting that broke out in the wee hours. Scores of dead terrorists were found scattered in the terrain ahead of the captured bund along with their weapons. By Thursday (7) afternoon troops have collected six T-56 weapons of the LTTE. Fighting was reportedly continuing at the time this report was pasted.

     Meanwhile, clashes continued in the same VELLAMULLIVAIKKAL area on Wednesday (6) when advancing troops met LTTE resistance. During search operations that followed troops recovered three LTTE dead bodies, two T-56 weapons and one communication set from the area. 

     In the meantime, during search and clear operations conducted by the troops in AMPALAVANPOKKANAI, NELWELIKULAM, KUPPILANKULAM, WADUVAKKAL, MURUSUMUDAI and NACHCHIKUDA areas, they recovered forty-five T-56 weapons, two I-com sets, five rounds of 130 mm artillery shells, two thousand and seventy rounds of T-56 ammunition, one 25 kg claymore mine, two Out Board Motors (OBM), six Light Machine Guns (LMG), fifty-eight hand grenades, five terrorist-made Arul bombs, one lorry , a stock of iron balls weighing about 100 kg and one LTTE criminal code book from those areas, the same day (6).
