LTTE Top-Rung Leaders, AMIRTHAP &; KOBITH Lose Their Lives

MULLAITTIVU: TWO more top-rung Tiger leaders, AMIRTHAP alias AMUTHAB and KOBITH alias GOBITH have perished during the very same PUTHUKUDIYIRIPPU fighting on 31st March 2009, in which PRABHAKARAN’s son, CHARLES ANTHONY was confirmed injured.

AMIRTHAP was the leader of the so-called LTTE’s “Charles Anthony Regiment” at the time of his loss following military confrontations. He became the leader in 2008 after serving as the special leader for the so-called “Imran Pandiyan Regiment” in 2006. He was in charge of the LTTE Forward Defence Lines in NAGARKOVIL in the year 2007.

AMIRTHAP who has been associated with LTTE military wing since he joined the LTTE remained in charge of a string of Tiger attacks on Security Forces in VILATHTHIKULAM (October 2007), PALLAIMADU (April 2008), KOKKUTHUDUAI (May 2008), VAVUNIKULAM (July 2008) and AKKARAYANKULAM (October 2008).

KOBITH, as a popular senior military leader in most of the “Charles Anthony Regiment” led LTTE operations against the Army, was formally the special leader of the “Charles Anthony Regiment” in the year 2007 but due to a disagreement with PRABHAKARAN, he was removed from the leadership. However, due to his commitment in the violence against the troops, he was brought back to lead offensives against the Army later in the year 2007.

In July 2003, KOBITH took over as the LTTE intelligence leader for the “Charles Anthony Regiment”. This terrorist leader, well-known for his fighting capabilities was appointed area leader for NAGARKOVIL in 2002.

Loss of those Tiger leaders has come as a terrible blow to the terrorist outfit at a time it was suffering the worst setback in its history spanning over twenty-five years.
